CAVITY SEARCH RECORDS.
I have worked with Portland's renowned Cavity Search Records since its inception. While I am not officially part of the label, I am a first cousin. I created this "logo" for CSR's 30th anniversary. We used it on the socials, tees, stickers, and a few special releases.

My earliest contribution was for the first ever CSR release back in 1992. I took the back photo.

Flash forward to my latest design contribution. Jesse Daniel Edwards–Violensia–2023. This is a limited CD, yes CD, that I made out of a printed shipping box. I wanted something unique and inexpensive.

Jesse Daniel Edwards–Violensia–2023. The box above contains four cards, together they form the liner notes on one side, and an image on the other.

Here is the vinyl version of Violensia.

The gatefold for Violensia on vinyl.

Jesse Daniel Edwards–American Dreaming–2023. I did everything for this cover from concept to photography to layout. I printed the album credits on a lousy setting on lousy paper and pasted them on the prescription bottle. I wanted the bottle and credits to have the look of the real thing.
Summer 2022. This is a quick promo video I put together to promote the CSR 30th Anniversary Seven-Inch Box set. The box was designed and built by Owen Grau. I created the insert catalog of the records. The video was posted on the usual socials and the pre-orders sold out on the same day.

Pete Krebs–I Know It By Heart. This LP was part of Record Store Day 2022. The Record Store Day Pete Kreb's albums are released on their 20th anniversary and on vinyl for the first time.
I designed the original CD package with the late great, and dearly missed, Christopher Cooper, co-founder of Cavity Search. We designed many CSR projects together.

Pete Krebs–Sweet Ona Rose–1999. I didn't design the original CD, that was done by Christopher Cooper and the eminent Captain Mister Joe Davis. But I completely redesigned the back sleeve and record labels for the LP release.

Pete Krebs–Bittersweet Valentines–1999. A 10 inch EP reissued on vinyl for first time as part of Record Store Day 2019. I designed the original CD with Christopher Cooper 20 years previous.

Pete Krebs–Western Electric–1997. Part of Record Store Day 2017. Vinyl redesign of the original CD created with Christopher Cooper back in 1997.

Pete Krebs–Brigadier–1995. The first of the Record Store Day vinyl reissues of Krebs work. This one re-issued in 2015. I was able to fix some of the design errors Christopher Cooper and I made on the original CD release. I took the photos on the back cover.

Pete Krebs–Hey Pete Krebs!–2016. I designed the package and took all the photos of Pete. The interior tray shot of him is from 1995. The cover shots are from 2016…ahhh the passage of time!

Some additional shots from the Hey Pete Krebs! session.

Recent King Black Acid digital single release covers–2022.

Queen Chief–Animal Stories–2018.

Jerry Joseph–Weird Blood–2017.

King black Acid–Twin Flames–2017.

Hazel–Live In Portland–2016. The cover photo is by the Esteemed Scholar and Prognosticator Craig Cook.

Survival Skills–Curves–2015.

Survival Skills–Deep Space–2015.

Queen Chief–Queen Chief–2014. I designed the titling typeface in addition to the CD package.

Sno Bud and the Flower People–Flashback–2012. I designed the titling typeface. The band only gave me a small photo of the eye tattoo for the cover. "We don't care what you do, but it has to have this tattoo." So I just went psychedelic!

The Helio Sequence–Young Effectuals–2001.

While strolling the streets of Austin, Texas during South By Southwest I happened upon this woman wearing The Helio Sequence tee. Oregon in the house!

Pete Krebs & Danny Barnes–Duet For Clarinet And Goat–2001. Metallic silver ink over flowers. Designed with Christopher Cooper.

Gentlemen Of Leisure–Gentlemen Of Leisure–2001. I wish I could claim the photo concept and execution! Mike McGill was the photog.

Pete Krebs & The Kung Pao Chickens–Hot Ginger and Dynamite–2001. Designed with Christopher Cooper.

King Black Acid–Loves A Long Song–2000. Designed with Christopher Cooper.

Danny Barnes–Minor Dings–2000. The great Danny Barnes of Bad Livers fame. Designed with Christopher Cooper.

Richmond Fontaine–Lost Son–1999. Designed with Christopher Cooper.

Golden Delicious–Live At Laurelthirst–1999. Designed with Christopher Cooper.

Steve Lacy Trio–The Rent–1999. Yup, the actual Steve Lacy who used to play with Thelonious Monk! The painting on the cover was painted by Steve.

Steve Lacy–Actuality–1996. Steve plays solo-awesome!

dirtclodfight–Hymnal–1995. Designed with Christopher Cooper. I think-not 100% sure-that this was my first CD design.

Screenprinted Cavity Search showcase posters for North By Northwest music festival 1998, 1999, and 2000. Designed with Christopher Cooper.

Greg Oldson–Leaving Open Fields–2006–Treehouse Records. This is not a Cavity Search release. I show it because it features the photography of Mike Slack. I am a fan of his work, and on this I just tried to keep my design out of the way of his photos.
